Ang Lee considering to direct Angelina Jolie in Cleopatra biopic

Ang Lee is a director known for challenging himself, and the Life of Pi filmmaker is ready for the next challenge, one that could take him to Ancient Egypt. Lee revealed that he will be reading the script to a planned biopic on Cleopatra.

The film would be based on Stacy Schiffs 2010 book Cleopatra: A Life and currently has Angelina Jolie attached to star. Schiffs book takes a different perspective on the famous Egyptian queen, who has already been portrayed on film by several actresses including the iconic Elizabeth Taylor.

I'm about to read the script, Lee told The Hollywood Reporter at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. It just feels right to me after all the other types of films I've done. What does it have in common with any of them? Theyre all totally different! Thats what makes this perfect.

Producer Scott Rudin has been working with Sony on the project since 2010 and had assigned Brian Helgeland to pen the script. James Cameron and Paul Greengrass considered Cleopatra for a time, before David Fincher was attached. However, Fincher dropped out last year, reports Indiewire.

Lee, who won an Oscar for 2005s Brokeback Mountain, has earned wide acclaim for this years Life of Pi. He is expected to get another Oscar nomination for the film on Thursday. Today, he earned a BAFTA nomination for his work on the film.
