Angelina Jolie gets a leg up on social media

At the start of the Oscars broadcast, Twitter was mostly obsessed with Jennifer Lopez's alleged wardrobe malfunction. (Some thought J.Lo's body-baring dress bared about a milimeter more than it meant to; her stylist says no.)

But it was Angelina Jolie who made a lasting impression on social media.

Neither Lopez's strategically positioned dress nor Sacha Baron Cohen spilling fake Kim Jong Il ashes all over Ryan Seacrest during the red carpet pre-show, nor Billy Crystal doing his Sammy Davis Jr. impression, nor the uber-annoying microphone feedback during the show could detract from ... Angelina Jolie's leg.

"Angelina Jolie's" trended Sunday night and surfaced again Monday.

Angelina Jolie's what? Well, her right leg, to be precise. While presenting an award, the actress purposely stuck out that particular gam, presumably to showcase a slit in her black Atelier Versace dress.

But she didn't just stick it out she injected an extra ounce of swagger into the move, so much so that she elicited a little chuckle from the audience. Jolie had actually been showcasing the leg the whole evening on the red carpet, but this was the first time she got to do it during the telecast.

It quickly became the leg heard 'round the world. Moments later, the move was emulated by the winning best adapted screenplay tea! m from " The Descendants."

In short order the leggy stance got its own term, "Jolieing," as well as a Twitter account, @angiesrightleg over 34,000 followers strong as of today (way outpacing @JLosNipple, which had just shy of 5,000 followers). There's also a Tumblr blog, Angelina Jolie'ing.

The thigh-happy pose has been called the new Tebowing. At the Angelina Jolie'ing blog and elsewhere, there's been a brisk trade in "leg bombing" the insertion of Jolie's Oscar leg into various pictures. The limb, wearing a black peep-toe Ferragamo heel, has added a little "kick" to both Maggie Smith's character from "Downton Abbey" and the modest 1871 dress of Whistler's mother. The leg has also been seen peeking out of the Statue of Liberty's gown and invading a scene from "The Help." It's walked in on the assembled table of Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper."

Leggiest of all, however, is a manipulated photo of Jolie on the red carpet with Brad Pitt where she flashes one leg on each side of her dress, squatting in a most un-Jolie fashion. Both are her rogue right leg.

As the leg says (via Twitter), "Left leg and I talked everything's cool. Next Oscars, she gets the slit."
