Angelina Jolie & Fox Circling Ridley Scotts The Counselor
The Counselor is a new crime thriller that has gained massive amounts of traction in a very short amount of time.
The script for the film appeared virtually out of nowhere, and is the first screenplay written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cormac McCarthy(No Country for Old Men). With that kind of clout behind the words, it wasnt long before a director became attached to the project and said director just so happens to be Sir Ridley Scott (Prometheus). With those two big names working together on a project, a list of interested stars was inevitable.
The Counselor has already locked in Michael Fassbender (Prometheus, X-Men: First Class) as its lead, playing a respectable lawyer who tries to dip a toe in the drug business and ends up sucked down into the type of mayhem described as No Country for Old Men on steroids. The film also features a ruthless villain (No Country star Javier Bardem is circling that part) and two prominent female roles one of which is rumored to have Natalie Portmans interest.
Today we hear that another big star is interested in joining The Counselor: Angelina Jolie. Vulture reports that Jolie is in talks for a small part, possibly a cameo role, given that The Counselor is slated to shoot this summer around the time that Jolie starts work on Disneys Maleficent.
A prominent script leads to a prominent director, which leads to prominent stars, and ultimately, a prominent studio with dollar signs in their eyes. Vulture reports that 20th Century Fox could distribute and possibly co-finance The Counselor - provided that the cast ends up as high-profile as its been shaping up to be. I guess in the movie biz even a sweet thing isnt considered a sure thing.
As always, well keep you updated on the status of The Counselor.
