Angelina Jolie visits refugees

Angelina Jolie visited refugees in Ecuador on her first Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commission for refugees.

Jolie spent time in rural areas and met 24 Afro-Colombian refugee families who fled almost twenty years ago.

The oscar-winning actress spoke of the many needs these people need and recognises the efforts of the UNHCR, reports Reuters.

Ecuador hosts over 55 000 refugees and 21 000 asylum seekers. There are many applications also for protection from people wishing to flee Columbia.

Jolie also visited the women's meeting house that she helped to fund.

It is her third visit to the region but the frst in her new role as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador.
