Angelina Jolie in court as ICC finds Congo warlord Thomas Lubanga guilty of using child soldiers

Judges ruled Thomas Lubanga was guilty of abducting children from the street and turning them into killers during intertribal wars in the Ituri district of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo that raged between 1998 and 2003.

Angelina Jolie watched from the public gallery in the International Criminal Court in the Hague as the verdict was read out.

After the session ended, Jolie spoke briefly to the media and gave her reaction to the verdict.

"I think, the most important thing is, this is very young court, very new court, this particular case was about the conscription of child soldiers, so many witnesses, over sixty people came in, young people came in, and spoke about what happened to them and because they were unable to have court proceedings in their country, they asked for this, the victims asked for this, the country asked for this" she said.

Lubanga will be sentenced at a later date but could face up to life in jail.
